The
Carnivore In Me
Meat in most shapes and form has become my best friend
from very early on in my life. I just love everything about it !!
Growing up in my parents’ house, Saturday night was always
known as the “special meal “. It was the day that mum would take extra care and
time to devise the most delicious meal of the week .. Whether it was steak,
kebabs or a roast dinner it was a night you would always be in and not to be
missed.
Now don’t get me wrong, I do have my favourites ... Roast Lamb... wow !! just the smell of
this meat cooking away in the oven ... those juices in the tray ... I always
make sure it is me that has to go and baste the meat at regular intervals (
only so I can slice a cheeky piece off with no one knowing ) .. Let’s face, it
there is no other meat that has such a great flavour and with such little
effort, or no seasoning, it can make
anything accompanied with it taste divine ...
Chicken
The simplest easiest meat that can be used in 101
ways ... very low maintenance, cheap in
cost and can be added to simply anything to perk up a meal .. just lovely
Pork
Now this is one of the meats alongside turkey that I feel
has been forgotten about .. it just has not been given any importance at all ..
Therefore, a quite inexpensive meat to buy and usually you get a lot more
quantity for the price, making it more value for money than chicken. So pork
is very tasty in stir fries, and can be used as a substitute for chicken dishes.
Turkey
Turkey on the other hand.. We usually associate it with Christmas!
When it is available all year round, why are we insulting it by only eating it
once a year ?? Turkey you deserve better .. However, turkey is very low in fat
making it a healthy meat to eat. Try to make a Spaghetti Bolognese next time
using turkey mince .. you might just be surprised.
Beef or Steak
Although I love this meat, I don’t really get many opportunities to
eat it, as my other half doesn’t eat this
type of meat .. it is a very tasty and juicy piece of meat ... but can be a bit
fatty at times ( when both our partners are out, me and my sis always cook a
gorgeous sneaky steak, pan fried or griddled with garlic and onions slices topped with a touch of seasoning .. just simple.. no time or effort but so yum !! )
Duck
I don’t often use this meat, only because I do find it quite
fatty ... it is delicious roasted but must be cooked on a rack in the oven so
all the fat can be drained. Ensure to season, then crisp the skin to make it
even better
